Who the February intake is really for
- School-leavers who did not get the placement they wanted in Tunisia and made their decision after the September start.

It is not for those wanting to enter the first year of a specialty directly: the February intake opens the preparatory year, not the main programme.
The real timeline, working backwards
This is what decides everything. Russian administrative timelines are not negotiable, and they stack up.
- Autumn: assembling and submitting the file to the university. Administrative admission usually takes two to four weeks.
- Then: the official invitation letter from the Russian Ministry of the Interior, which alone takes 30 to 45 days.
- Next: the consular visa application, once the letter is in hand.
- Finally: medical insurance, flight and arrival in Russia for classes starting in February.
In practice: a file started in November is comfortable; a file started in January is already too late for February.

The February intake puts you into the preparatory faculty: intensive Russian, plus the core science subjects in the language of your future specialty — biology and chemistry for medicine, mathematics and physics for engineering.
You then join the first year of your specialty at the following intake, at the same level as students who started in September. The gain is real: you begin your programme a year earlier than if you waited for the main intake.
Three mistakes that cost you the intake
- Waiting until you have "figured everything out" before starting. Sworn translations and legalisation can begin before the university is finally chosen.
- Underestimating the invitation letter: it is the longest step in the whole chain, and it depends neither on you nor on the university.
- Choosing a university on prestige alone. A regional university with places available in February beats a full Moscow university.
