How to choose your university in Russia
The choice is often made on a single criterion — the best-known name — and sometimes regretted after arrival. A prestigious but oversubscribed Moscow university, expensive and far from campus, is not necessarily a better choice than a regional one where you will be well housed and well supported. Here is what to actually compare.
The criteria that genuinely matter
- Status: an accredited state university, the basic condition for recognition of your degree in Tunisia
- Accreditation of the specific programme you want, not just of the institution
- The language of instruction: Russian after a preparatory year, or English, which changes the budget
- The place in university housing and its real rate, the first line after tuition
- The cost of living in the city: from €140 to €260 a month depending on region or Moscow
- The presence of a Tunisian student community, decisive in the first months
What matters less than you think
A global ranking weighs little on your daily life or on the recognition of your degree in Tunisia. What counts for equivalence is state institution status and programme accreditation — not the international rank.
A regional university with available places beats a full Moscow one: there is nothing to gain from targeting an institution that will not take you this year.
