Nearly two centuries of training engineers

The history of the institution goes back to 1830, making it one of the oldest technical schools in Russia. Its specialisation has never shifted: to train engineers, and to train them seriously.

Its alumni include Andrei Tupolev, whose name remains attached to Soviet aviation, and Sergei Korolev, chief designer of the space programme. For a student aiming at engineering, those two names say more than a ranking about what the school has produced.

Hosting international students

The university has a preparatory department for international students providing both language and scientific preparation, with programmes geared notably to engineering, technology, economics and natural sciences.

Its international pages mention ten halls of residence. Allocation of a place remains to be confirmed at admission.

Studying in Moscow

Bauman is based in Moscow, in the Baumanskaya district. The page devoted to the city details accommodation and living costs, along with the distances to anticipate between halls and campus.

What to verify with the institution

Since the institution is exclusively technical, verification bears less on whether programmes exist than on their arrangements.

  • The exact code of the engineering specialty you are targeting: engineering has no single code, each sub-field has its own, and it will appear on your degree
  • The language of instruction of the full course: English-taught programmes exist, but that does not hold for every specialty
  • The effective allocation of a place in halls

Programmes open to international students

The status of each of the five programmes we document. "To be verified" means no institutional source allowed us to settle the question: it is neither a yes nor a no, and it is confirmed with the institution for the academic year concerned.

Languages of instruction

RussianYesEnglishYes

Language depends on the programme, not on the university. Some courses may be offered in English while others are taught in Russian: the language of instruction must be verified for the chosen programme before applying.

Preparatory year of Russian

Preparatory facultyYes

The institution has a preparatory structure for international students. It allows you to prepare for study in Russia, particularly in the Russian language and, depending on the case, in the subjects needed for your future course. Duration, content and fees are to be confirmed with the university.

University halls of residence

Halls of residenceYes

The university international pages mention ten halls of residence.

University halls are available, subject to allocation conditions and available places. The existence of a housing stock does not guarantee that a place will be allocated to every international student.

Can this university suit a Tunisian, Moroccan or Algerian student?

Admission requirements vary by programme and by the nationality of the applicant. A Tunisian, Moroccan or Algerian student must check the official requirements applying to their own file before starting the procedure. Here are the points to check, in this order.

  1. Your secondary school leaving certificate and its recognition by the institution you are targeting
  2. Whether the programme you want is open to international students for the year concerned
  3. The language of instruction of the full course, and the level required
  4. Whether a preparatory year of Russian is needed
  5. Any admission tests or interviews
  6. The exact list of documents to be translated and legalised
  7. The lead times for the invitation letter and the student visa
  8. Accommodation arrangements and the total annual budget
