Voronezh State University

A classical university a century old

Teaching began in Voronezh in 1918. It is a classical multidisciplinary university and the main academic hub of the black-earth region.

It has hosted international students since 1961 and states on its international site that it has trained around fifteen thousand foreign students and trainees from one hundred and twenty-six countries. Among the regional universities in the network, it is the one whose international experience is best documented.

Hosting international students

The university offers a pre-university programme specifically for international students who do not have sufficient command of Russian.

Several halls explicitly have places for international students, which is a more committing formulation than the mere existence of a housing stock.

Studying in Voronezh

Voronezh is the largest and best equipped of the regional cities in the network: the services of a genuine regional metropolis at a cost of living close to that of medium-sized towns. It is often the choice of students who want neither the anonymity of Moscow nor the quiet of a small town. The page devoted to the city develops this point.

What to verify with the institution

The university states that the majority of its programmes are in Russian, while also offering courses and programmes in English. Verification therefore bears on your specific programme.

• Whether general medicine and dentistry are open to international students, which we could not confirm
• The language of instruction of your full course
• The allocation of a place in halls for your programme

Programmes open to international students

The status of each of the five programmes we document. "To be verified" means no institutional source allowed us to settle the question: it is neither a yes nor a no, and it is confirmed with the institution for the academic year concerned.

Languages of instruction

Language depends on the programme, not on the university. Some courses may be offered in English while others are taught in Russian: the language of instruction must be verified for the chosen programme before applying.

Preparatory year of Russian

The institution has a preparatory structure for international students. It allows you to prepare for study in Russia, particularly in the Russian language and, depending on the case, in the subjects needed for your future course. Duration, content and fees are to be confirmed with the university.

University halls of residence

Several halls explicitly have places for international students.

University halls are available, subject to allocation conditions and available places. The existence of a housing stock does not guarantee that a place will be allocated to every international student.

Can this university suit a Tunisian, Moroccan or Algerian student?

Admission requirements vary by programme and by the nationality of the applicant. A Tunisian, Moroccan or Algerian student must check the official requirements applying to their own file before starting the procedure. Here are the points to check, in this order.

1. Your secondary school leaving certificate and its recognition by the institution you are targeting
2. Whether the programme you want is open to international students for the year concerned
3. The language of instruction of the full course, and the level required
4. Whether a preparatory year of Russian is needed
5. Any admission tests or interviews
6. The exact list of documents to be translated and legalised
7. The lead times for the invitation letter and the student visa
8. Accommodation arrangements and the total annual budget
